The International Association for Near-Death Studies (better known as IANDS) is an organisation devoted to the promotion of "responsible, multi-disciplinary exploration or near-death and near-death-like experiences, their effects on people’s lives, and their implications for beliefs about life, death, and human purpose." IANDS claims no allegiance to any particular interpretation of the near-death experience.

History

IANDS started out as an organisation devoted mainly to helping serious researchers in the NDE field. However, it later developed into a much more inclusive group which serves researchers, health-care professionals, experiencers and those close to them, educators, and anybody generally interested in learning more.

Publications

IANDS publishes a quarterly newsletter named Vital Signs for the general public, and also the quarterly Journal of Near-Death Studies devoted to furthering research and understanding of NDEs

Other Activities

IANDS also has a program of small grants to encourage scholarly research, creation of an NDE Research Fund, runs the annual IANDS conference, and also publishes an indexed bibliography to the periodical literature on near-death and near-death like experiences.
