Chupacabra / Chupacabras

The word means Goat Sucker in Spanish and comes from farmers in Puerto Rico who have found their livestock, mostly goats and chickens dead with the animal's blood drained out.

Several sightings in Texas have been attributed to the Chupacabra. Coyotes with mange are likely the culprit in these sightings. Mange is a condition were parasites cause an animal's fur to fall out.

Some features of the classic Chupacabra, such as the spines along the back, the three toed claws and the wings are not seen in the animals which have been killed or captured in Texas.

There are reports of sightings in Calavaras County, though no photographs or other direct physical evidence has been obtained, other than some very bad claw marks which resulted from an chained up dog being attacked after a UFO sighting.
